The Reason

Be Content

Copyright 2006.

Written for an Advent Story project I'm working on. This is the story of a cow that couldn't manage to be content with the way things were.

THis is a pretty funny song for the kids but with a powerful message too, we should be content with what we have.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
Well, I should have been happy with the life I led
Before my dreams came true.
Just to run and play in the grass all day
Underneath a sky so blue.
But I couldn't help but wish for more,
What it would have been like to live indoors,
What it would have been like to learn to fly
Right across the moon in a starry sky.
Right across the moon in a starry sky.

Chorus:
But my Momma said, "Just be content!
You have everything you need!
Sunny summer days in which to play
And the grass on which to feed
For the Lord above, with grace and love
Gives all of this to us
So be content with what you have
And don't make such a fuss
And don't make such a fuss

Bridge 1:
But I want a rubber raft to ride on
A magic carpet just to fly on!
I wish I didn't have a tail,
That I was as tiny as a snail
With a pretty pair of purple horns
Or only one, like a unicorn
Or never eat this grass again
Or have to shelter from the wind
Or have to shelter from the wind

Verse 2:
Well, now I live inside a cave,
And I never see the sky
And I'll never see the sun again
Or watch the clouds roll by.
And I never knew it was such a bore
To spend my life cooped up indoors
And I'll never taste the grass again
Or feel the soft caress of wind
Or feel the soft caress of wind

Chorus:
And I've learned by now to be content!
I have everything I need!
A stable hand to give me hay
And a manger for my feed
For the Lord above, with grace and love
Has given this to me
So I'll be content with all He's sent
I know He's here with me.
I know He's here with me.

Bridge 1:
But there's a newborn baby in my manger
I have to share my stall with strangers
Some shepherds came to share the word
That this baby is the Lord of Lords!
So if He stays there all day long,
Then I won't eat until He's gone
And if some strangers share my stall
I promise I won't mind at all.
I promise I won't mind at all.
I promise I won't mind at all.

Chorus:
And I've learned by now to be content!
I have everything I need!
A stable hand to give me hay
And a manger for my feed
For the Lord above, with grace and love
Has given this to me
So I'll be content with all He's sent
I know He's here with me.
I know He's here with me.
